Dave Birnie
// Dave @ 3am, probably

Hey. I'm Dave.

// Chatham, Ontario · Est. 1987

I'm a serial entrepreneur who builds businesses before the rest of the world wakes up. Not because I have extra time — because I don't. I have a full-time job, a wife I love, and three boys who need a present father. So the hustle gets the hours no one else is using.

I've built and sold businesses before. Health and safety training. Permanent outdoor lighting. A solo-built software and hardware product. Each one taught me something the last one didn't. Now I'm doing it publicly — every dollar, every decision, every mistake — because I believe the journey is worth watching.

I am also a Christian. That is not a footnote here. It is the operating system. My faith shapes every priority, every business decision, every reason I get up at 3:30am instead of staying in bed.

This site exists to document what happens when someone with a day job, a family, and a $100 starting budget decides to build something real. Publicly. With no guarantees.

The Priority Stack

Every entrepreneur talks about sacrifice. This is the actual order I operate in. Click each one to understand why.

1
God
// Faith is the operating system, not a department
My day starts on my knees before it starts anywhere else. Every business I build is accountable to something bigger than revenue. I'm a Christian man — and that's not something I compartmentalize. Faith shapes what I build, how I treat people, why I'm transparent, and what I do when things fail. If a business decision conflicts with what I believe is right, the decision loses.
2
Elizabeth
// My wife. Her love language is quality time. I protect that.
Elizabeth is my wife. She is the reason I operate within constraints instead of just grinding endlessly. 7:30–8:30pm every night is her time — no phone, no business, no code. Not proximity. Actual presence. She's the reason the 3am window exists in the first place — so the business doesn't eat the evenings that belong to her.
3
The Boys
// William (7), Wes (4), Wyatt (2)
Three boys. William is 7 — a planner and a leader. Wes is 4 — fearless and first into everything. Wyatt is 2 — quiet, observing, taking it all in. They go to bed at 7pm. The evenings until then belong to them. This is non-negotiable. I am not building a business empire at the cost of being absent from my kids' childhoods.
4
Work
// Full-time IT & Facilities at CKCHC
I have a full-time job — IT and Facilities at a community health centre in Chatham. It pays the bills while the businesses are being built. I show up fully there. It comes before personal ambitions. The 3am window exists so that work never competes with my employer — the business time is carved out of hours that belong to no one else.
5
Me
// 3:30am – 6:00am. Two hours of business. One hour of content.
My window is 3:30am to 6:00am. That's it. Two hours of deep business work, one hour of YouTube/content documenting the journey. No phone. No social media. No distractions. After 6am, I go upstairs, make Elizabeth a coffee, and start the family morning. The dream gets 2.5 hours a day. That's enough — if I'm ruthless about using them.

How I Build

I use every AI tool available to me — not as a crutch, but as a force multiplier for someone who only has 2 hours a day to build.

I am not trying to prove something to the world. I am trying to build something for my family — in the only hours that are mine to spend. God first. Elizabeth second. The boys third. The rest gets 3am.
